March last year, excITE, our youth centre, embarked on a collaboration with ITE College East for a service learning project, sponsored by Chip Eng Seng Pte Ltd, a construction company.
After the completion of 24 hours of service learning within a year, the 22 student participants chosen by ITE were each awarded the Chip Eng Seng Study Grant.

Volunteering at excITE for the past 3.5 years has been a very enriching experience for me. There were times when I felt really glad and encouraged that I was making a difference in the students’ lives, but there were also seasons when I struggled to carry on.

I always felt the call to support causes. From obscure ones to do with nature or animal conservation, to those of the very basic human need – access to food, medicine, etc. However, being a working adult in time-starved Singapore meant one simply couldn’t pursue every societal cause that comes our way.
